Drew Barrymore | Nomi Malone – Showgirls

Drew Barrymore is one of the industry’s most versatile talents. She has worked on films in a variety of genres, including rom-coms and darker material. It’s safe to say that Barrymore is a bit of a risk-taker when it comes to choosing projects to work on, but she did draw the line when it came to one film. The actress declined an offer to star in Paul Verhoeven’s film Showgirls. Had she agreed, Barrymore would have been given the role of Nomi Malone. The film turned out to be a cult classic.

Aside from her, the same role was offered to Sharon Stone and Madonna, but both passed up the opportunity. Nomi Malone eventually went to actress Elizabeth Berkley. So, why did Barrymore refuse? She did not like the excessive explicit scenes required by the movie. To her credit, she did eventually star in many other successful films, so it wasn’t a total loss.
