Paul Giamatti | Michael Scott – The Office
Yes, the part of the funniest boss Michael Scott in The Office almost went to Paul Giamatti, who just reached the success of buddy flick Sideways. Giamatti was reportedly the first choice for the lead role, but he declined. A critic said that his characters in film and television tend to be more cerebral, as opposed to the “dumb guy” Michael Scott. The part went to Steve Carell, who nailed the role in a way that Giamatti probably couldn’t.
After earning his MFA degree from Yale, Giamatti went on to pursue a career in Hollywood. While his acting career took off slowly in the ‘90s, he received roles in films and shows consistently. He is best known for his appearances in The Hangover Part II, Big Fat Liar, and Donnie Brasco. He is also a voice actor who has worked on BoJack Horseman.
