Sean Connery | Gandalf – The Lord Of The Rings

Those in the know report that Sean Connery was offered the role of Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings franchise. For better or worse, Connery refused the offer, and Sir Ian McKellen instead got the part. The film series spanned three film releases for over three years, starting with The Fellowship of the Ring released in 2001 and The Two Towers and The Return of the King followed in tow. The story is set in Middle Earth, a fantasy realm, and is the brainchild masterpiece of distinguished author J.R.R. Tolkien.

The eternity of the franchise earned a staggering $2.91 billion at the box office. Understandably, Connery had no insurance that a film of the fantasy genre had the potential of this kind of commercial feat. Moreover, the franchise won countless highly notable accolades. Among which was the historical Academy Awards, where The Return of the King won all of its eleven nominations.
